Let’s be honest — life can be very stressful. With daily work, family, and social life pulling us in every direction, having time to show some love to ourselves feels like a luxury.  But here’s the cold hard truth; self-care is not selfish. It is of utmost importance.

Today, society celebrates the “busy” culture, and therefore, devoting time to focus on one’s mental, physical and emotional wellbeing may seem self-centered. But, when you invest in taking care of yourself, you are not just improving your life; you are influencing every aspect of your life.


What self-care is all about? 

Self-care is not and should not only be about going to a spa or treating yourself to an expensive latte every other day. It is about caring for your mental, physical and emotional health, and being considerate about it.

Self-care can be as simple as: 

•           Balancing and managing your positivity and protecting its energy by creating space between toxicity. 

•           Devoting at least 10 minutes to meditation on a daily basis. 

•           Have appropriate sleep at night and consume a healthy and balanced diet during the day. 

By putting self-care and self-kindness at the center, one can marvel at how they can give themselves the same amount of gender-free love and care that they possess for others. This, and not just this, is quite normal. 


Social Importance of Self-Care, Self-Awareness and Wellness 

Here is how embrace self-care and self-awareness will pay dividends to you: 

1. Enhances Psychological State

Nervous or anxious? Even simple self-care rituals such as Breathing exercises, journal writing and going away from your work desk give your brain peace and increase concentration.

2. Improves Physical Wellness

Staying hydrated, exercising, or sleeping 7-8 hours a night can transfigure your energy levels and keep you feeling strong.

3. Enhances Productivity

Have you ever noticed how much you feel productive after a good night’s sleep or a workout? It is just because self-care sharpens your focus and helps you work smarter.

4. Strengthens Relationships

When you are good to yourself, you easily connect with others. Working on your self-care ensures you show your best version to your loved ones.


How to Reflect on Your Self-Care

Planning a difficult self-care day isn’t necessary. Here are some approaches you can try to begin.

Plan It:

Schedule self-care in the same way you would an appointment. Make sure to make time for it every day.

Be Basic:

Maybe you want to consider starting with little practices, for example, having a glass of water, giving thanks, or taking a few minutes off.

Remember Your Feelings:

At times self-care can have to rest, on other instances, it may involve working out or meeting people.

Practice It Regularly:

Don’t think of self-care as something that you do just once. Create habits that will allow you to assist your health on a daily basis.


Why Wellness Matters

What you do evolves from your wellbeing, hence begin with that. If you do take care of your health, be it mentally or physically, experiencing life becomes much easier.

Taking some time off for self-care is not being selfish. In fact, it is an act of self-love so do not feel guilty the next time you are about to self-care because you deserve it.
